Literally a cult spot and a great destination for an active outing near Bratislava is Biely Kríž. Biely Kríž is a beautiful grassy meadow surrounded by deciduous forests above Bratislava. It is located about an hour’s walk above the Rača district. Its popularity is certainly boosted by the local refreshment huts, which usually offer soups, beer, and soft drinks. On the meadow, there is also the nicely renovated forester’s lodge U Kocmundu, which provides accommodation.

Many hiking and cycling trails lead to Biely Kríž, including the red-marked trail of the main ridge of the Little Carpathians. Cyclists often ride up the asphalt road from Rača to enjoy a longer downhill ride into the city afterward. Cars are not currently allowed, except for guests staying at the U Kocmundu lodge.
The advantage of Biely Kríž is its location: it’s just above the city, yet far enough to avoid city noise. Reaching it requires some physical effort, but it’s more of a pleasant activity with a relaxing reward—sitting on the meadow with a chilled drink in hand. All of this makes Biely Kríž an ideal destination for relaxation even during the workweek. In winter, you can ski here, for example, around the Haluzický Monument and continue along the ridge of the Little Carpathians. Cross-country skiers will also enjoy the area around Biely Kríž. Nearby, there is also a notable memorial site for the plane crash at Sakrakopec.
