Dunajská Streda District

The Dunajské Luhy Protected Landscape Area is a magical network of wetlands, islands, and peninsulas, covered with lush floodplain forests and interwoven with branches of the Danube River. It stretches southeast from Bratislava along the course of the Danube.

The Gabčíkovo Waterworks is the most important waterworks structure in the Bratislava region and one of the key water management facilities in Slovakia. Like many other dams, it also serves a significant recreational function, particularly for residents of Bratislava and the surrounding area. The waterworks is located about 50 km south of the capital on the Danube River near the village of Gabčíkovo.

A little-known local point of interest near Bratislava is the Star-Shaped Fort, also known as Csillagvár, from the Hungarian word csillag, meaning “star.” It was given this name because of the shape of its ground plan.
