Malý Draždiak is a natural lake that remains relatively unknown, even among Bratislava residents. This body of water is located in the Petržalka District, in the area of Zrkadlový háj, right next to Lúka vďaky (Meadow of Gratitude).

Malý Draždiak Lake

Along with Nemocničný Draždiak Lake, Zadný Draždiak Lake, Veľký Lapoš Lake, and the much more famous Veľký Draždiak Lake, it forms an interesting natural system of water bodies in the largest residential area in Slovakia.

Malý Draždiak covers an area of 9 hectares and, like many lakes in Bratislava, was created through gravel extraction. It is considered a peaceful spot, ideal for relaxation within the city. If you want to escape the urban hustle for a while, this is a perfect place to visit.

Reaching Malý Draždiak Lake is not difficult. If you cannot walk, public transport is the most practical option. For example, you can get here from stops on Kutlíkova Street. On foot, it is easily accessible from Veľký Draždiak via several small paths.

This area is also suitable for cycling. A major bike trail runs along the Danube embankment, and from there it’s just a short distance to Malý Draždiak. Simply cross Dolnozemská Street. One of the access points to the lake is near the gas stations.

Thanks to the surrounding lakes and the Danube, the Malý Draždiak area boasts surprisingly rich flora and fauna. You can admire dense floodplain forests that host various plant and animal species. Swans and ducks are frequently seen here. Nearby, you may even encounter the violet oil beetle, one of Slovakia’s most poisonous insects. There is no need to worry, as it will not harm you unless handled.

Malý Draždiak Lake is perfect for walks, jogging, picnics, or observing wildlife – an unusual opportunity so close to a densely built urban area. Residents of nearby apartment buildings don’t have to travel far to enjoy nature, which is especially convenient during the workweek.

At the lake, there are fire pits and even a small pavilion, making it a nice spot for barbecues. In winter, if conditions are right, ice skating on the lake might be possible. Swimming is uncommon here, as the neighboring Veľký Draždiak is more popular for that activity.

If you bring a dog to Malý Draždiak, be sure to follow the usual rules for dogs in this part of the city.
