The Vydrica Wildlife Observation Tower is a small lookout located in the Little Carpathian forests above Rača District, near Pánova Meadow. This wooden structure is interesting not only for its views but also for its unusual architectural design.

The designer managed to create it so that its appearance does not disturb the surrounding nature. Additionally, it adds an engaging element to local forest walks. If you visit at a quieter time, you might even spot some of the wildlife that inhabits the area. The Vydrica Observation Tower is relatively easy to reach via marked hiking trails and is a draw for anyone who enjoys gentle forest walks.
You can start the hike to the tower from different points in the Little Carpathians, depending on how long a walk you want. It is located almost on the main ridge of the range, so approaches from both east and west are roughly equal in distance.
You can start, for example, from the Rača Amphitheater, where parking is relatively easy, or from Marianka Village. The lookout is located close to the yellow trail in the Pánova Meadow area.
The tower itself is architecturally unique and definitely not ordinary. It has a fairly innovative design, consisting of stepped wooden beams arranged like windows. It has a slightly cubist style, yet fits reasonably well into the natural surroundings. It is not ostentatious and harmonizes with the environment.
Access to the lookout is via a short wooden walkway. It is not difficult. From the platform, you can sit and enjoy the view toward the southwest. On quiet days, you may even spot some wildlife, most commonly deer. During busy weekends, however, you may encounter a number of visitors, which limits both wildlife spotting and quiet time in the tower itself.
The hike to the observation tower is ideal for a weekend outing or for longer summer days, even after work. The route is suitable for families with children, dog owners, and seniors who like to stay active.
Keep in mind that the initial ascent into the hills can include some steeper sections. The trail around this mini-tower is also recommended for runners, mountain bikers, or cross-country skiers, providing an interesting variation for training, especially if you haven’t been here before.
Nearby the Vydrica Wildlife Observation Tower, you can also visit Pánova Meadow, Malý Slavín, or Dolný Červený Kríž – beautiful forest meadows with shelters and good spots for barbecuing. Other highlights in the area include the Zbojníčka Spring and the Slalomka and Baník cycling trails near Veľká Baňa Hill.
