The Haluzický Monument is an idyllic commemorative site located between Rača and Biely Kríž, marking the shooting of hunter Viktor Haluzický by poacher Štefan Skala on April 5, 1941. The stone monument features an image of St. Hubert, the patron saint of hunters, and is situated on an unmarked forest path near Piesky Hill (447 m). Hidden in a deep, peaceful forest, it serves not only as a memorial but also as an attractive destination for a quiet nature excursion.

Haluzický Monument

There are several ways to reach the monument. It is recommended to consult a tourist map where the monument is marked and, if needed, use GPS navigation in the field. The hike to the Haluzický Monument typically starts in Rača District along the blue trail, where you leave the initial asphalt road leading to Biely Kríž Trail Hub to follow a forest path up towards Piesky Hill.

The forest path is occasionally steep but can be navigated on a mountain bike or even on cross-country skis in winter. If you prefer to avoid cycling uphill, you can take the asphalt road to Biely Kríž and later turn onto the forest path, reaching the monument via a downhill route.

The Haluzický Monument is ideal for anyone seeking peace and quiet in the forest. While known, it lies off the busiest route to Biely Kríž, allowing visitors to enjoy the area without crowds. This route can also serve as an alternative ascent to Biely Kríž, though it requires good planning or a GPS device. Once on the correct forest path, navigation is straightforward. The monument is easy to spot, flanked by two large trees and positioned directly along the forest trail.
