Pezinok District
Vydrica Spring is the source of an important mountain stream that flows through a large part of Bratislava’s forest park. It is located in the Bratislava section of the Little Carpathians, near Biely Kríž crossroads above Rača District. Vydrica Spring is a pleasant, idyllic spot that is well worth visiting on a short excursion. You will find it near the red hiking trail that follows the main ridge of this mountain range.
Literally a cult spot and a great destination for an active outing near Bratislava is Biely Kríž. Biely Kríž is a beautiful grassy meadow surrounded by deciduous forests above Bratislava. It is located about an hour’s walk above the Rača district. Its popularity is certainly boosted by the local refreshment huts, which usually offer soups, beer, and soft drinks. On the meadow, there is also the nicely renovated forester’s lodge U Kocmundu, which provides accommodation.
Sakrakopec (440 m a.s.l.) is a hill located south of the main ridge of the Little Carpathians, above the southernmost outskirts of Rača District. It is also the site of an air disaster from 1966, when on November 24 at 4:30 p.m. a Bulgarian passenger aircraft, an Ilyushin Il-18, crashed here. All 82 people on board lost their lives, making it the deadliest aviation accident in the history of Slovakia.
