Petržalka
Malý Draždiak is a natural lake that remains relatively unknown, even among Bratislava residents. This body of water is located in the Petržalka District, in the area of Zrkadlový háj, right next to Lúka vďaky (Meadow of Gratitude).
The confluence of the Zuzana Branch and the Danube River forms the tip of the Starohájsky Island, offering a stunning viewpoint over both waterways. It feels as if you are standing directly in the junction of the two rivers. This scenic spot lies south of central Bratislava and is most easily reached by bicycle, making it an excellent destination for cycling enthusiasts.
Starý háj, also known as Starohájsky Island, is located south of the center of Bratislava, on the Petržalka side of the embankment. This island consists of a piece of land bordered by the Danube River, the Starohájske Branch, and Zuzana Bay. Its natural wealth, in the form of floodplain forests, is protected as a nature reserve. It is a very rewarding destination for cycling, walking, or running. You can take either a half-day or a full-day trip there.
Veľký Draždiak is a popular lake in Bratislava, located in the Petržalka District near the Chorvátske Rameno Canal. This 13-hectare body of water is particularly attractive for relaxation, especially during the summer. It is not uncommon to encounter large groups of swimmers here, as the lake lies directly in Slovakia’s largest residential area. This gravel lake has relatively clean, clear water, making it inviting for a swim.
Chorvátske Rameno, also known as the Chorvátsky Canal, is located in Petržalka. It is an impressive 5 km long and approximately 1.5 m deep. In a broader sense, it can be seen as a kind of waterway running through a large part of this Bratislava district.
The Anti-Napoleon Rampart is a historical defensive structure in Bratislava dating back to wartime, specifically 1809. It is located in Janko Kráľ Park (Sad Janka Kráľa), on the Petržalka side of the Danube. At first glance, this grassy earthen barrier resembles more of a flood protection embankment.
The Historical Stop of the Vienna Tram is located on the Petržalka side of the Danube and commemorates Bratislava’s transportation history, specifically the period when a tram ran between the Slovak capital and Vienna in the first half of the 20th century.
The Pečnianska Riviera consists of rocky beaches on the Danube River in Bratislava, located in the Pečniansky Forest near the Lanfranconi Bridge. It is a lesser-known spot, but it has been growing in popularity recently. These are pebble beaches whose size depends on the water level of the Danube. When the river flow is low, the beaches become exposed, allowing you to walk dozens of meters out into the riverbed.
