Dračí Hrádok is a ruined castle located above the village of Borinka, near Bratislava. It sits on Starý Hrad Hill at an elevation of 370 meters. The castle can be reached from Borinka along the main road toward Medené Hámre (former mining settlement), with a short hike up the hill via the yellow hiking trail leading directly to the ruins.

This makes for a great day trip for families with children or for anyone interested in exploring the history of the Bratislava region. The hike can be combined with a barbecue on a small meadow by the Stupavský Stream below the castle.
Dračí Hrádok is easily accessible by car from Bratislava, and public transport to Borinka is also possible. From Borinka, it’s a longer walk along the asphalt road that leads to the base of the castle. Parking is possible at a small lot near Stupavský Stream, from where the yellow trail quickly leads to the ruins.
The climb is steep, and at the junction “Dračí Hrádok, Rázcestie”, hikers must turn off the forest road toward the castle. Bicycles are not recommended unless you are an experienced mountain biker; you may need to push your bike uphill.
Dračí Hrádok is part of the Little Carpathian castle system, reflecting the rich medieval history of the region. Today, only a few stones remain, giving the ruins a fragile appearance that may not withstand weather for long.
The castle was built on a prominent hill, offering its guards a strategic view of the valley and surrounding area. The area is now densely forested, so views are limited, but the site still offers a pleasant visit. Near the ruins, there is a small seating area and fire pit; for larger groups or barbecues, the meadow by Stupavský Stream is more suitable.
The climb to Dračí Hrádok is short but relatively steep, manageable for most hikers. Wet, muddy, or icy conditions can make the trail slippery, so trekking poles are recommended. Descending can also be tricky for those with weaker knees.
Along the way, visitors can see an information board about manganese mines, whose remains are visible along the trail. For a more interesting outing, you can also explore the remains of the Medené Hámre settlement, including the Chapel of St. Michael.
