The Viewpoint by the Cross above the Quarry in Záhorská Bystrica District is located near the Strmé Vŕšky bus stop. At the edge of an abandoned quarry, at its highest point, an iron mast topped with a combination of a heart and a cross was erected.
The location naturally lent itself to the creation of a lookout. This initiative was led by the local mayor, Vladimír Kubovič, and the mast has stood here since 2009. The site is easily accessible and is perfect for a short walk or run. It offers opportunities to watch beautiful sunsets far to the west.
To reach the viewpoint, take public transport or drive to the Strmé Vŕšky stop. From there, a short uphill walk follows a service road around the quarry. Mobile navigation can be useful, as the trail is unmarked, but orientation is not difficult if you stay on the road.
The path has one brief steep section, but overall it is very short. From the bus stop, it is approximately 500 meters to the top edge of the quarry, where the mast with the cross is clearly visible. The trail can also be cycled with a mountain bike.
The viewpoint is especially interesting because of the mast and the wide, far-reaching views to the west. It is an ideal spot for a short, relaxing walk any day of the week, whether with children, a dog, for a brief run, or a cycling trip.
The site offers beautiful sunsets, and very few people visit, making it peaceful. From the viewpoint, you can clearly see the entire abandoned quarry. Both the lookout and the quarry are considered local points of interest. If you haven’t been here yet, it is worth a visit, especially under favorable sunset conditions. Photographers will likely appreciate the location.
The viewpoint above Záhorská Bystrica is suitable for a mini-excursion for all ages and fitness levels, as long as a short uphill walk or descent is manageable. The trip can be combined with a visit to the nearby Poľovník Lodge at Plácek (Chata Poľovník na Plácku), which has a small refreshment bar, or extended toward the slightly more distant Little Carpathian hill, Hrabovina.
