The Malá Vydrica Spring, also known as Bystrička, is the source of a right-hand tributary of the well-known Little Carpathian stream – Vydrica. This spring is hidden relatively deep within the forests of Bratislava’s Forest Park, making it not only a good source of water but also an interesting destination for a short trip. No matter which part of Bratislava you start from, the path to the spring takes you through the beautiful nooks and corners of the local forest.

The Malá Vydrica Spring is located very close to the yellow hiking trail, often referred to as the Drieňovská Ridge Trail. This trail connects the areas of Kačín and Železná Studienka. More broadly, the trail and its connecting routes extend to Lamač and Rača districts. This makes it possible to plan a pleasant walking or cycling trip with a stop at the Malá Vydrica Spring.
The spring itself is a large concrete block from which water flows through a pipe. It is hidden in dense beech undergrowth and can be easily missed. A small side path from the yellow trail, marked on a nearby tree, leads to the spring. In winter, the path may be covered with snow, making it more challenging (and fun) to find. With proper navigation and a map on your phone, however, it is easy to locate.
A trip to the Malá Vydrica Spring is, like many other hikes in the Little Carpathians around Bratislava, well-suited for families and all kinds of visitors. Runners will also enjoy the Drieňovská Ridge Trail. Nearby popular spots include Kačín, the ponds of Železná Studienka, and the Kamzík Cable Car that starts from Snežienka and leads up the hill.
