If you are considering an interesting trip near Bratislava, we recommend the Klokoč Peak. It is a 661-meter-high summit in the Small Carpathians, located on the main ridge above the village of Plavecké Podhradie.
The surrounding area includes the Klokoč Nature Reserve, covering 21,59 hectares. The landscape is truly unique within the Small Carpathians, characterized by meadows with solitary trees and numerous rare mallows that give the area a distinctive charm during the growing season.
The thriving mallows are likely supported by the volcanic substrate. In addition to its natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere, Klokoč offers attractive viewpoints.
The peak can be reached via multiple hiking trails, most conveniently from Plavecké Podhradie or Plavecký Mikuláš. It is also accessible along the main ridge of the Small Carpathians following the red trail. Both villages are easily reachable by car or bus. The area is bordered by Amon Meadow and Uhliská Pass, which are also interesting spots worth visiting during your trip.
Klokoč captivates visitors with its serene atmosphere, old solitary trees, hilly meadows, and fields full of mallows. At the very summit, off the marked trail, there is an unusual wooden cross with numerous nails hammered into it, whose origin remains a mystery.
The area’s flora and fauna are so unique that it has been granted Level 5 protection. From the peak, the views extend beyond the Small Carpathians, including the Považský Inovec, White Carpathians, and Tribeč Mountains. Between Klokoč and Plavecké Podhradie, there are also numerous caves, though they are not open to the public.
