St. Martin’s Cathedral is notable for its impressive size. It is 70 meters long and 23 meters wide. The church dominates its surroundings mainly thanks to its 85-meter-high tower, which is not normally open to the public. It is especially interesting for the gilded crown at its top, a symbol of coronations.
Inside, the church is characterized by the clean lines of its architecture. Among the most interesting interior features is the statue St. Martin and the Beggar by Georg Raphael Donner from 1734, a powerful resonant organ, and of course the altars. The decoration also includes beautiful stained-glass windows. Outside, you can find several interesting features such as the sandstone epitaph of Ján Draškovič installed on the northern wall. The cathedral also contains a crypt.
A visit to the Bratislava cathedral is a suitable activity for everyone, even in bad weather. It is recommended to attend a mass, during which you can also hear the local organ. Many people also visit St. Martin’s Cathedral during the Midnight Mass.
