Čumil is a cheerful metal statue depicting a historic sewer worker at work. It is located in the center of Bratislava’s Old Town, specifically at the intersection of Panská Street and Rybárska Brána Street.

Čumil statue

The statue’s name comes from the fact that the worker appears to be “peeking” up from the sewer into the street. It has become a magnet for tourists, who often gather to take photos.

Due to its location and popularity, the best way to visit Čumil is on foot. Public transport can bring you nearby—for example, to the SNP Bridge, from which it’s just a short walk of about ten minutes.

If you come by car, parking is possible in the underground garages near Hotel Carlton or in nearby streets, though these are usually paid and often full. Be aware that Čumil can be easy to miss, as the statue rises only a few centimeters above the pavement—but the crowds of tourists taking photos usually give him away.

Visiting Čumil is a fun and amusing experience in the Old Town. The statue has become an iconic part of the area, brightening up the intersection. It’s suitable for all types of visitors. Nearby, on Rybárska Brána Street, you can also see another popular Bratislava statue – Schöne Náci, and the Statue of a Napoleonic Soldier at the Main Square, making it easy to combine multiple sights in one visit.
