Slavín is a war memorial commemorating the sacrifice of Soviet soldiers who fell on the territory of Slovakia during World War II. In total, nearly 7,000 soldiers are buried here.
Slavín is a massive architectural monument rising above Bratislava, specifically over the Horský Park area. Its obelisk reaches almost 40 meters in height. Both its location and monumental appearance make it a rather unique attraction of Bratislava. It is undoubtedly one of the city’s landmarks and is visible from afar.
At the same time, the views from Slavín itself are excellent – especially of Bratislava Castle, but also of large parts of the city. All this makes it a great tip for a trip, whether you have never been here before or are simply looking for inspiration for an interesting walk within the capital.
Slavín can be reached by public transport, by car, by bicycle, or on foot. We particularly recommend the last option, if you are able. A walk through the streets around Palisády from Bratislava Castle or Horský Park is beautiful.
The streets are quiet and peaceful and lined with many interesting older and modern villas. There is certainly much to admire. The route does lead uphill, but if you take your time, it is not too demanding and you will reach Slavín before you know it.

Thanks to the various transport options, it is suitable for all types of visitors, from families with children to seniors.
