Kapucínska Street is part of Bratislava’s historic city center. In addition to its significant landmarks, such as St. Stephen’s Church (commonly called the Capuchins) and the historic building of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, the street serves an important transportation function.

Kapucínska Street

It connects Hurban Square with the area where the tram tunnel passes under the castle hill. A tram line runs along Kapucínska from Obchodná Street to Arm. Gen. Ludvík Svoboda Embankment. Nearby, the Zochova Street bus stop forms an important transfer hub together with the tram stop on Kapucínska.

The street is very easily accessible thanks to the tram line and the nearby bus stop on Zochova Street. Driving is not recommended, as parking is limited. It is better to reach Kapucínska on foot or by bicycle.

The street takes its name from the Capuchin Church and Monastery located here. It forms a pleasant public space, with a larger open area in front of these buildings called Župné Square. The entire street is paved, giving it a slightly grander character, and benches under the trees near the tram stop provide a spot to rest.

Kapucínska Street is often lively thanks to visitors of St. Stephen’s Church, as well as people waiting at the tram stop. Trams from here run to Karlova Ves, Dúbravka, Rača, and Ružinov districts.

For a short sightseeing trip, visitors can also explore the historic National Council building and the plague column in front of the church. The street also features several cafés and eateries, as well as a library, supporting multiple aspects of urban life. St. Stephen’s Church is a particularly photogenic landmark.

A walk along Kapucínska Street is a good option for a short stroll through the Old Town and is suitable for all types of visitors. Note that from Klariská Street, steep stairs lead to Kapucínska, which may not be suitable for everyone.

They can be bypassed via the underpass or by approaching from Hurban Square. Nearby attractions include Kapitulská Street, Michalská Gate, and Hurban Square with St. John of Matha Church (Trojička).
