Funus Pub (Krčma Funus) has become a classic part of Bratislava’s pub scene. It is located near Horský Park and Slavín Memorial, above the Main Train Station, at the end of the uphill stretch where Hlboká Street meets Prokopa Veľkého Street.

The pub, which primarily serves good beer, has its own unique atmosphere and is often packed to capacity in its outdoor section, equipped with tables and benches. The establishment offers very pleasant outdoor seating under large trees, in a peaceful location above the city’s bustle. During the coronavirus period, take-away service through a window ensures that beer lovers don’t go thirsty even during difficult times.
Getting to Funus involves a pleasant, though hilly, walk, either along Hlboká Street from the Main Train Station or through Horský Park. It’s a place that can easily be incorporated into any hike or stroll. Beer is served from a charming historic building, and there is also table service outside, though it can sometimes struggle to keep up.
The pub offers snacks and a traditional menu with dishes that pair well with beer. The overall atmosphere is nice, making it a comfortable spot to sit and chat over a drink. The only potential issue is the limited seating. However, increasing capacity massively would likely ruin its charm, and there’s not much space to expand anyway.
A walk to Funus is recommended for anyone who enjoys exploring the quieter streets of Bratislava. There are many such streets in the area, full of interesting architecture, especially villa-style houses. Children might enjoy nearby attractions such as the Slavín War Memorial, Horský Park with its ranger station and small playground, or the Murmanská Výšina, an intriguing granite monument dedicated to those fallen in World War I.
