The observation tower on Devínska Kobyla (514 m a.s.l.), the highest peak in Bratislava, is a uniquely designed tourist lookout offering exceptional panoramic views of the city and its surroundings. Together with the views from the Kamzík TV tower, it is considered one of the most impressive vantage points in the area.

Devínska Kobyla Lookout Tower

The tower was completed in 2020 in response to the requests of many hikers and visitors who had previously been unable to enjoy unobstructed views due to the dense forest. It is easily recognizable from a distance by its striking metal structure, reportedly shaped like a praying mantis or a thistle – symbols of the local nature that the architects wanted to incorporate into the design.

Access to the tower is not completely effortless. Although it is possible to drive relatively close, reducing much of the uphill climb, a walk of about half an hour along an asphalt road or marked trails is still required.

There are several forest paths leading to the tower, so studying a hiking map in advance is recommended to choose your preferred route. Perhaps the easiest starting point is Dúbravská Hlavica Crossroads, where roadside parking is available, though it can get quite crowded on busy days.

The tower itself is located within the area of a now-abandoned rocket base at the top of the hill. You can reach it by road or mountain bike, but be prepared for a challenging incline. Hikes to the tower can also start from districts of Devínska Nová Ves, Devín, or Karlova Ves.

Climbing the observation tower on Devínska Kobyla is suitable for all fitness levels, including families with children, and even parents with strollers (with some effort on the asphalt path). If you are not prone to vertigo, it is definitely worth a visit. Spectacular views can be enjoyed year-round, except in winter, when the tower may be closed for safety reasons.
