Devínska Kobyla Hill, with an elevation of 514 meters, is the highest peak in Bratislava. Although it is one of the most popular destinations for active recreation in the capital area, few people are aware of its top-ranking height.

This may be because Kamzík Hill, with its prominent TV tower, visually dominates the city from afar. However, since 2020, Devínska Kobyla also has its own observation tower, helping to finally make its height well known to city residents and visitors.
Many hiking trails lead to Devínska Kobyla – from districts of Devin, Dlhé Diely, Karlova Ves, Dúbravka and even Devínska Nová Ves. The climbs vary in length and steepness, each offering unique experiences.
In the officially protected natural area of Devínska Kobyla, visitors can enjoy a wide range of activities – hiking, cycling, or even cross-country skiing during ideal winter conditions. The peak borders some of Bratislava’s largest residential areas, making it a sought-after spot for relaxation throughout the week. Visitors of all ages and fitness levels can find suitable routes and activities here.
The main attraction today is the observation tower at the summit of Devínska Kobyla, which provides stunning panoramic views. It ranks among the best viewpoints in the Bratislava region, offering 360-degree vistas that extend even into neighboring countries.
Equally intriguing is the tower’s location – it stands within the grounds of a dilapidated Cold War-era missile base, which itself is a unique historical site and window into Bratislava’s past.
Just below the summit, there is another smaller viewpoint with a practical shelter, marked on maps as Devínska Kobyla, Rázcestie. Other notable sites on the slopes include Sandberg (sand kill on the outskirts of Devínska Nová Ves), a sandy remnant of a prehistoric sea containing fossils. From here, visitors can also plan trips to the ruins of Devin Castle or the confluence of the Morava and Danube rivers.
