The confluence of the Danube River and Morava River is one of Bratislava’s most idyllic spots, thanks to the unique natural scenery created where these two rivers meet. It is located in the Devín District, beneath the rocky cliff that hosts the remains of the popular Devín Castle. The combination of rich history, natural beauty, and easy accessibility makes this location a sought-after place for leisure and relaxation.

Confluence of the Danube and Morava Rivers

The confluence is easily reachable by car, public transport, or bicycle. A large free parking area is located directly below Devín Castle, from which the rivers meet within a five-minute walk. Cycling paths also lead to the site, either from the city center or from Devínska Nová Ves District along the Morava River.

This spot is perfect even for short visits. Many visitors come here to relax after work during the week. It is ideal for families with children, offering stroller-friendly paths and easy walking trails. Seniors can comfortably enjoy a visit, and athletes such as cyclists and runners will also find it suitable.

Benches along the riverside provide a place to sit and watch the dramatic contrast between the rolling waters of the Danube and the calmer, muddy Morava. Observing heavy cargo ships battling the strong current adds to the fascination.

The confluence is historically significant as well. During the Cold War, it marked the edge of the Eastern Bloc – the so-called Iron Curtain. The border consisted not only of barbed wire and soldiers but also the flow of the Morava River itself. A memorial at the confluence commemorates the tragic times when many lost their lives attempting to escape to the West.
