Platňa is a granite wall located on the right side of Strmá Cesta Street, which leads up to Bratislava Castle. It is situated near the entrance to the tram tunnel and the Chatham Sofer Mausoleum. You will come across the Platňa Rock right at the beginning of the ascent along Strmá Cesta, just beyond the last apartment building.

Although it is quite massive and about 10–15 meters high, it is hidden behind a curtain of dense trees. Climbers often use Platňa as a training rock. It is equipped with permanent anchors, and beginners especially use it for practice. Platňa is a relative curiosity almost in the heart of Bratislava, making it a great destination for a trip combined with a visit to Bratislava Castle.
Access to Platňa is very easy. There is a tram stop just a few dozen meters away. Some might find it inconvenient that there is a longer staircase leading from the stop to the rock. You can also reach it more closely via Žižkova Street by car, although parking is very limited. A walking tour or a short bike ride along the riverbank is also possible.
The immediate surroundings of Platňa are not particularly remarkable. What is striking is the rock itself. It is a huge granite block and clearly part of the granite cliffs beneath Bratislava Castle. It is possible to climb to the top edge of Platňa using a steep path along its side, but this is dangerous and not recommended. The terrain is unsecured, and a fall could have fatal consequences.
Platňa is most interesting for climbers, who use it for beginner climbing practice. Several routes with fixed anchors have been set up, but climbers can also practice placing their own protection.
You can climb using a rope or train on bouldering routes. It is an ideal spot for quick climbing practice on natural rock when time is limited. You can pop over after work and climb a route or two. Keep in mind that the most popular routes are usually occupied.
Platňa may also be interesting as a curiosity for non-climbers. For them, we recommend taking the stairs of Strmá Cesta up to Bratislava Castle or visiting the viewpoints near the Slovak National Council. This way, the outing becomes even more enjoyable.
