Old Bridge is a bridge in Bratislava connecting Petržalka with the Old Town. It is one of the city’s most important transport structures. A tram runs across the bridge, forming a key part of the public transport network, while cars and buses are no longer allowed, although they were in the past.

Beyond its functional role, the bridge also serves a recreational purpose. It is not uncommon to see cyclists, runners, and visitors simply enjoying the sunset. Old Bridge features viewing platforms, offering beautiful sights of the Danube and the Old Town.

The bridge is very easy to access as it is directly connected to public transport. It continues Štúrova Street toward Petržalka District, with tram stops located at both ends (a short walk away). The bridge also has two-way cycling lanes and a dedicated pedestrian section. Access is via a gentle incline, making it suitable for wheelchair users and families with strollers.

Old Bridge has a long history, but it is most remembered as the gray pontoon bridge built at the end of World War II. In 2016, it was replaced by the “new” Old Bridge, which better incorporates recreational functions for city residents.

Today, people can walk, run, cycle, or simply sit and enjoy the views and sunsets. The bridge’s cycling routes connect to paths along the embankment all the way to Gabčíkovo in the south, or into Austria upstream along the Danube.

Runners can create scenic loops, combining routes through Sad Janka Kráľa Park or the nearby floodplain forests. It is also possible to link multiple Bratislava bridges into a single route.

The views from Old Bridge are especially striking: the Danube itself, Bratislava Castle, the nearby Apollo Bridge and SNP Bridge, and modern developments around Eurovea. The bridge is a great spot for photography, whether for selfies or shots featuring the passing boats.

A visit to Old Bridge is suitable for everyone – families with children, seniors, athletes, and dog owners alike. For a quieter experience, visit early in the morning at sunrise or during working hours when crowds are smaller.

Nearby attractions include Sad Janka Kráľa Park, the former Vienna tram stop, and walks through the floodplain forest between Old Bridge and Apollo Bridge. A scenic loop along the riverbanks can also combine Old Bridge with SNP Bridge.
