The cannon on Michalská Street is one of the small, easily overlooked mini-attractions in Bratislava’s Old Town. It is a classic wooden cannon with an iron barrel and wooden-spoked wheels, much like those seen in historical films.

Cannon - Michalská Street

The cannon is located directly beneath the Michael’s Gate (also called Michael’s Tower), at the intersection of Michalská and Zámočnícka Street. Today, it serves as a charming and easily accessible feature that adds character to this spot, making it ideal for a weekend walk with children.

The fastest way to reach the cannon is by taking a tram to the stop on Kapucínska Street, from where it’s just a short walk. Cars generally cannot access this part of the Old Town. The cannon is also easy to find by looking for the prominent Michael’s Gate.

Visiting the cannon under Michael’s Gate is perfect for families with young children. It’s a fun photo opportunity, similar to the nearby Čumil Statue. From here, you can continue with a longer stroll through the charming corners of the Old Town. The Michael’s Gate and Tower itself is one of Bratislava’s most important and characteristic landmarks. The tower offers excellent views, including a bird’s-eye perspective of the cannon.

An interesting historical note: old photographs show that the spot where the cannon now stands used to host a fruit and vegetable stall.
