Ondrejský Cemetery is one of the oldest cemeteries in Bratislava. It is located in the territory of the Old Town, near Medická Garden. It is an appealing destination for a short trip, or rather a walk, especially from a historical perspective.

Ondrejský Cemetery

Here, you can find numerous old graves that are interesting in their design. Burials took place here until the mid-20th century. The cemetery also contains the graves of notable Slovak personalities.

Those who enjoy legends should visit the grave of the “Bratislava Robinson.” This adventurer, Karol Jetting, is said to be buried in this cemetery, although no official records exist about his adventurous life.

Ondrejský Cemetery is easily accessible by public transport. Parking is reasonably available nearby, although it is paid, as is common in the city center.

The cemetery is relatively large, covering an area of about 6 hectares, so you can spend a considerable amount of time walking around. At the entrance to the cemetery, there is a monument in the form of the Greek Catholic Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.

The cemetery itself has a spacious atmosphere. The graves are not packed tightly together as is common in other cemeteries in Bratislava. Among the graves worth noting are tombstones designed by the sculptor A. Rigele.

Notable individuals buried here include Július Satinský, Rudolf Mandera, Vavro Šrobár, Ignác Lamar (Schöne Náci), Michal Kováč, Ferko Urbánek, and many others. Among the most interesting graves is that of the Bratislava Robinson, the famous adventurer whose life is largely shrouded in legend.

Ondrejský Cemetery is one of the places that contributes to the unique character of the Old Town. It is a fairly authentic location that we recommend visiting.

Exploring Ondrejský Cemetery is an activity suitable for all types of visitors. It is a place that will surely not disappoint lovers of Bratislava’s history and unique sites.

Nearby, it is also worth visiting Medická Garden, one of the most beautiful green spaces in Bratislava. Both of these locations are especially beautiful in autumn.
